Swim Team
Playa Vista Swim Team is our competitive swimming team open to any child enrolled in any of our Otters, Dolphins and Junior Lifeguard classes. Not sure which is the right group? Come for an assessment here.
We compete in a swimming league against other swimming clubs in Los Angeles eg Culver, Santa Monica and Manhattan Beach. We average one competition a month and in the summer, we enter the Bay Area Championships in Montebello and SCMAF (Southern California Municipal Athletic Federation) meet in La Mirada.
Each meet typically lasts 3 hours and all the meets are super friendly. Children don’t have to dive in off the blocks. They can dive from the side of the pool or push off from the side. Flip turns are optional.
Swim meet fees are $25 per child. This will be charge to your account when you register and they are non refundable.
Playa Vista Swimming silicon swimming hats are mandatory for our competitions. They are $20 each. Email us to buy one and we will drop it off at practice.
Swimmers can choose 3 individual events to enter. The age groups and distances are:
5 & 6 year old’s - 25 yards of each stroke
7 & 8 year old’s - 25 yards of each stroke
9 & 10 year old’s - 50 yards of each stroke
11 & 12 year old’s - 50 yards of each stroke
13 & 14 year old’s - 50 yards of each stroke
15 years and up - 50 yards of each stroke
The four strokes are Butterfly, Backstroke, Breaststroke and Freestyle. Depending on the meet, 100 yard freestyle and 100 yard IM may be offered. (Individual Medley (IM) is each stroke swum in the same race.)

A few weeks before each meet we will send you registration information. We encourage all our club swimmers to try one competition. Let us know if you have any questions.
